You Impacted My Life & Ministry

It was a shock when I heard of the going to glory of Rev. Edet George.

Bro. Edet, as we fondly call him was the one who trained my wife (then we were in courtship) and I at the Christian Missionary Foundation School of Missions Idere in 1994. It was during the mission awareness he conducted at Foursquare Shomolu under the leadership of Rev. Owoade that I responded to the call of missions. From the School of Missions I was posted to Kutara among the Bassakomo tribe in Abuja for two months field practicals. Rev. Edet on his way from a conference in Jos came off his route to check on me in the village where I was working in the company of my coordinator, Bro. Femi Orekoya. It was a timely visitation because I was in intense spiritual struggle. Their coming was a big relieve for me because I was able to share with them my struggle and benefitted from Rev. Edet's spiritual counsel.

He was instrumental to how we did our court wedding while still at the school on November 29, 1994. And he organized for us to wed in the church ( New Covenant Church Samonda Ibadan) where his friend, Rev. Emmanuel Aladiran was then the National Overseer in 1995. When we went to their house to thank them for their role in our wedding after our honeymoon. Their children welcomed us with a song "here comes the bride, here comes the groom". We left their home well fed, and with a priceless, beautiful baby bouncer. Which we used for our first and second children and passed on to another missionary couple.

When I came home from Malawi in 2007 to attend the CMF African Deliverance Convention. He made sure we had one-on-one chat on the side. He was helpful in providing me tips necessary for our success as missionaries in Malawi. In 2010, he was the main speaker at the Missions Conference we organized. He almost did not make it but he came despite his wife's health challenges. His wife told him not to call off his participation in the conference. We were glad he did as he brought messages on discipleship to the church in northern region of Malawi, a thing which was mostly needed at the time.

Rev. Edet and his wife, Mrs. Ann Edet George are perfect example of what it means to give up all to follow Christ. Their children were left in the care of Dr. and Mrs. Adeyeoluwa when they moved to Central Africa Republic to pioneer the mission work under the auspices of CMF. I remember that I was the one who took Uduak to Messiah College when she was to resume high school in June 1998 (the date may not be accurate). They did not consider their lives too dear to be given to the master. And they through their examples impacted the life of all of us who passed through them in ministry. We will miss them dearly. May the Lord comfort their children and all those impacted by his death. And may we all be found faithful till the very end in Jesus name.
